Frequently Asked Questions

Most of your questions about Nova Gymnastics are answered in this FAQ

General Information

How will my child benefit from gymnastics?

Gymnastics provides both physical and non-physical benefits. Basic gymnastics skills are beneficial to any sport a child participates in later in life. Gymnastics teaches strength, flexibility, agility, confidence, balance, and allows children to interact with each other in a social environment where he or she will learn how to take turns and share with peers. When children learn how to swing on a bar, kick to a handstand, jump on a trampoline, climb a rope, or run into a foam pit and climb out, these are all challenging and fun activities that develop a multitude of physical benefits that provide a solid foundation for practically every sport. Gymnastics also offers mental benefits. According to child/teen development specialists Dr. Robyn Silverman, when children are engaging in gymnastics, they are exercising their brains as well as their bodies. Every time your child attends gymnastic class, they engage in physical exercise that encourages healthy brain function. Nerve cells multiply and connections in the brain are strengthened. It is not surprising that children who are engaging in consistent physical activity like gymnastics are more likely to get better grades than their inactive peers.

When can my child begin to participate in the sport of gymnastics?

Gymnastics is one of the only activities a child can begin when he or she learns to walk. Most sports require children to be much older. You cannot put your child in soccer, basketball, baseball, football or cheerleading as a toddler. But the toddler "Tiny Stars" gymnastics classes at Nova Gymnastics allow parents and toddlers to attend classes, learn and play together. It is the first form of organized activity in which your child can participate. Tiny Stars classes begin at 15 months.

How does the gym communicate with the families enrolled?

We keep our website updated frequently with news and information on events at the gym. We strongly recommend that you like us on Facebook for the most current updates on special events, weather closings, holidays, etc. We also collect email addresses from everybody who enrolls in a class. These email addresses are used by Nova Gymnastics to keep families informed of Nova news, upcoming events, and general gymnastics information. We will never share email addresses with anybody outside of Nova Gymnastics. Every email we send includes an “unsubscribe link” that will immediately remove you from our email list if you so choose.

Are spectators allowed to watch the class?

Parents and family members are always welcome to watch a class. Strangers will not be allowed to walk in off the street to watch the kids’ classes.

3 yr. – 4 yr.: Preschool Shooting Stars: One 50 minute class per week

When do classes start and how long are the sessions?

At Nova Gymnastics, we operate with Open Enrollment in all classes. Your child may begin at any time. Tuition is charged by the calendar month, so if you start your first class sometime during the month, we will prorate that first month’s tuition based on how many class dates remain. While all students are taught the same skills, each child progresses at their own pace. One student might master all skills at their level in a few months while another student may take much longer. When your son or daughter has mastered all the skills at their level, their coach will talk to you about promoting them to the next level.

How big are the classes? What is the instructor to student ratio? Are there girls/boys in the class?

We keep a low student to coach ratio to ensure all students get the best possible training in all classes. The exact ratio varies per individual class and level so inquire at the gym if you have specific questions about a particular class.
Toddler Tiny Stars: (parents participate in these classes), co-ed
Preschool Shooting Stars: co-ed
Recreational Gymnastics: separate boy and girl classes
Tumbling: co-ed

What is the curriculum that you follow and how do you show the parents the progress they make?

Students in all classes can view the skills taught in their classes and track their individual progress online at our parent portal. Coaches will update the online skills tracker at the end of each day. Students in Level One classes receive an update as often as every week if there is new progress to report. Level Two students get updates every other week, and Level Three students get updates once per month.

How do you decide which classes my child will be in?

Most children will begin in a Level One class. If your child has previous gymnastics or tumbling experience, the instructor will perform an evaluation on their first day and then decide which class level is most appropriate based on the skillset they already have.

What is the appropriate attire?

For gymnastics, we recommend girls wear a leotard, but shorts and a t-shirt are also acceptable. We have leotards available for purchase at the gym. Tumbling students should wear a t-shirt and a pair of shorts. Please do not wear loose shorts or shirts, or clothing with buttons, snaps or buckles as they can interfere with the gymnastics apparatus and the coaches spotting the student. Hair should be pulled back into a ponytail if possible. No jewelry should be worn. All students will be barefoot.

What is the makeup policy for the gymnastics club?

Tuition for each class is a flat monthly fee. Gymnasts are expected to attend class during their scheduled time. There are no refunds for missed classes. We understand that occassionally, a family emergency may prevent a student from attending their scheduled class and we will work with the family to find an available makeup class. Makeup classes are not owed nor guaranteed. Makeup classes are scheduled through the front office and are subject to availability. Makeup classes must be scheduled in a class of the same type and level and are only available while the student is actively enrolled in our program.

Can makeup classes be scheduled via the online Parent Portal?

No. Parents can check on their Student tab, Absences tab, to see if the student is eligible for a makeup, but they will need to contact the front desk to arrange for the makeup class day and time.

Do you offer any discounts or a reward program?

  • Enroll in our AutoPay program and receive a discount on recreational gymnastics and tumbling monthly tuition.
  • Refer a friend and receive a $20 tuition credit when they enroll. If two of more siblings enroll at the same time, you will receive a $40 tuition credit.
